Lymphoedema can occur at any time after surgery. It is important to know the signs and symptoms and what to do if you should start to develop lymphoedema. Early symptoms include swelling of the arm, breast or hand. Feelings of discomfort, heaviness, tightness or fullness in the arm or breast. Aching, pain or tension in the arm, shoulder, hand, chest or breast area. If you think you have lymphoedema you should seek advice from your medical team who can then refer you onto to a lymphoedema specialist.
